Can Individual Therapy Help You?

Stuck? Going through a tough time? You’ve had advice from family and friends, but you realize it’s time for confidential help from a sensitive, supportive listener with years of training and experience. Individual psychotherapy might be just what you need to move forward.

Creative collaboration is the hallmark of my approach to individual therapy. You and I work as a team, exploring your current situation, you life experiences, and your goals. I do my best to help you feel comfortable and understood. People tell me they look forward to our time together as an opportunity to “come up for air” in the midst of a busy week…to reflect on what matters most…to grow stronger and more confident.

Major studies show that psychotherapy is effective in helping people feel better and work more effectively to reach their life goals. To learn more about what the research shows on psychotherapy’s effectiveness read these articles on psychotherapy’s benefits in the Journal of the American Medical Association, The British Journal of Psychiatry, and the American Psychologist. A 1995 Consumer Reports “concluded that patients benefited very substantially from psychotherapy, that long-term treatment did considerably better than short-term treatment.” A recent study by the National Institute for Health and Welfare in Finland found that “active, engaging and extroverted therapists” helped patients more quickly in the short term than “cautious, nonintrusive therapists.”

“Some things cannot be spoken or discovered until we have been stuck, incapacitated, or blown off course for a while. Plain sailing is pleasant, but you are not going to explore many unknown realms that way.” — David Whyte

Relationships, anxiety, and life transitions are my areas of specialty.  Many of the people I see have never gone to a therapist before and often never expected to step inside a therapist’s office.  I do my best to answer your questions, help you feel comfortable, and participate in a shared exploration that can make your life less stressful and more satisfying. Since 1990 I’ve helped thousands of men and women feel more confident and enjoy more fulfilling lives, work and relationships. Drawing from the most recent research on your situation, I offer you memorable readings and metaphors to help you gain new understanding and work more effectively toward your goals.  None of us welcomes the painful times in life, but understanding them as opportunities for growth — and getting the help we need — can make all the difference.

Since 1990 I have helped hundreds of people in the New York area heal from pain, feel more confident and enjoy more fulfilling relationships. For a free telephone or email consultation, email or call me today.
